Biography

Paul Michael Peters writes novels about broken people who refuse to stay broken. He takes the idea from Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing shattered pottery with seams of gold — the break displayed rather than hidden, the object worth more for having survived it. More than a dozen books across five genres, and that is still the whole operation.

His next novel makes the case better than any pitch could. The Rhythm Is Going to Get You (September 15, 2026) is a quiet-apocalypse love story: Charlie, a deaf van-lifer in the Arizona desert, watches the world end not by bomb or plague but by a song — a frequency hidden inside an '80s pop hit that takes everyone who hears it. The thing the world called his brokenness turns out to be the only immunity. The woman he loves can still hear.

The same engine runs everywhere Peters writes — and Kirkus Reviews has noticed twice. It called Combustible Punch, in which a school-shooting survivor agrees to write a serial killer's confession, "an enthralling and unnerving probe into the complex mind of a murderer," and praised Right Hand of the Resistance as "a compelling vision of a possible future." In the Clockwork Constellation space-opera trilogy, clockmaker Millicent Gearwright and her crew cross a swashbuckling galaxy to reclaim Barnaby Blackwater — pirate, friend, hero, now the most dangerous man alive. Peters trained at The Second City in Chicago — the source of the dry humor that surfaces at his stories' worst possible moments.
